Hartford CT Regional
« on: March 25, 2009, 06:11:23 PM »
Hi All,

We arrived at Hartford, CT about noon today. We ate at Skooter's Diner for lunch, then we went to
the Hartford Air Museum.  I think the thing the kids enjoyed the most was the snow piled up
at the end of the parking lot. They had a snowball fight, and enjoyed seeing all the planes at the museum.
They had a restored B-29 that was awesome. Mike Walker took, well you know, enough pictures for all.
We will try to post them later.

We are at our hotel till 6:00 when we go to the GUS social.

I'll try keeping everyone up to date

We had a great time at the GUS social, the kids played Rock Band, and saw GUS'es
robot. Very nice design, it is going to be a tough competition.
They gave us a tour of their machine shop, wish we had some of those tools and
build space.  What a great bunch of mentors and parents.

Andrew and Jamison met a bunch of the GUS team female members, its not just
Medhi and Thomas.

We got to meet Ryan Morin's parents and sisters, boy do we have stories to tell ;),
just kidding.

GUS gave us a team shirt for our robot, they didn't want our robot to get a cold while in CT.
We had a great time.  BTW, the BBQ pork was excellent, and Ryan3 father's sauce
was one of the best ever.  They knew we like our pork, and deserts. Sorry Ryan3
and Caroline we ate all the brownies.

As always Mike has a ton of pictures...

The uncrating team is off to the convention center and the rest of us are...sleeping in? Can't be....Bacon never sleeps! We are going to catch the hotel shuttle around 8:30 and they will take us to the convention center. There is another team, Code Red, in our hotel from Ithica (sp?) NY -- about 5 hours away. This is their second regional also; they competed at Rochester. They have two busses full of people!

We'll update you at the end of the day!

Oink Oink BOOM!

I've been told that the crate weighed 732lbs, oops ;D.  The camera broke but a replacement was found. I'll post more when I hear it.

Ryan3

P.S. There is an extra tray of brownies still at my parents house waiting for me. :P

Ya won't believe it but we got back to the hotel at 6:30, I've heard it must be a record for
our team.  :D

We uncrated the bot got the pit set up, and went straight to inspection. We were one of the
first bots inspected and were on the practice field most of the day, I think we stayed in the
filler line most of the time.  GUS gave us some battery connectors, so we had 8 batteries being
charged, 4 will be used for competition.  Actually the whole team took time off for lunch.
Ryan Matt was ecstatic!  Yummy Convention Center pizza...

The only issue we ran into was the power adapter on our camera was shorting out. It appears
as if the circuit board power connector was damaged. Bionic Tiger's lent us a camera.  That one worked
much better and Skyler stated that the camera was tracking great, with some oscillation.

Josh, Goldie, and Evan scouted most of the teams, we will be giving out origami pigs, squishy pigs,
and gum tomorrow.

As always we were helping several teams get up and running.

Overall a great day :)

Mike posted several pictures on the website, I really like the BUTTERFLY flyer Matt found, and
the shirt GUS made for our bot.

We ate at the hotel, and watched the basketball games. Don't forget to ask Jennifer about
her exciting trip to WPI ;)
